This has been a long week

And it's only Wednesday. geez, party planning is tiring. I really don't think I'll be planning another one for quite awhile. Well, at least not one so elaborate:) I'll be glad when this party is over although I am looking forward to it.

I will also be glad to go back to the fun phone calls with my sister inlaw instead of the ones we've had lately that focus solely on how big of a cake to order to the number of balloons to buy. Those get pretty boring after awhile.

I think it's finally going to happen!

Hubby and I were talking last night and I think we are FINALLY going to be able to get a pool this spring! I'm so excited as are the kids. We've been planning on getting one for several years now, but something has always come up and any money we've set back for it has had to be used on something else (car repair, home repair, doctor bills, etc), but this year we've actually got enough set back to cover anything like that AND a pool! YES! Now to just get to the dealer and pick one out and then get on their installation list so we can have one as soon as the weather warms up! Can you tell I'm excited?

Florida

It is so cold here right now that all I can think about is laying on the beach somewhere warm. Florida keeps popping into my head because of its warmth, the beaches, Disneyland and the ocean views. It would be so cool to own some Florida real estate right now so that I could get away from this winter weather.

My band name

Growing up, I always thought it would be super cool to be in a band. I either wanted to be the lead singer (even though I can't carry a tune at all) or the drummer. It just seemed like it would be so calming to bang away on the drums like that, getting rid of all your frustrations. Well, needless to say, I never did join a band, but I did find this cool test on blog things to come up with a really cool band name. This is what it said:

Your Band Name is:

The Children of Bananas

Kind of different, but no weirder then some of the popular band names out there now.

Cool Avatar website

What is an avatar? Well, they are little cartoons that represent people online. You might use one on your personal webpage, in forums or you might use one on message boards to give people an idea of who you are, what hobbies you like, things like that.

If you like to make avatars, this is the web site for you. Thedollpalace.com shows you the "art" of making avatars or dolls. Visit the Dress Up Games section of their web site to make a personalized doll of your own. It is really easy to use. Just click on the catagories that you would like to use to make your avatar then build your own, personalized one.

They have several different graphics to choose from. You can design either a man or woman, be a blonde, brunette or redhead, be tall or skinny, even pregnant! Dress your avatar in a swim suit for summer fun or in winter gear for a ski trip. Whatever your heart desires. If you can imagine it then you can make it.

Visit their web site and see what they have to offer. You can chat with others on their chat page, read stories and even enter contests with your personalized avatar.

Weekend Update

Saturday went well. Our family pictures turned out fantastic and will be ready by Thursday so that's plenty of time for us to get them framed and ready for Sunday's party. We ordered two different poses for my parents of all of us together and also picked one each of each of our familys to give them also. I think they'll like them all. I know my mom will be ecstatic about them because she has been bringing up wanting MY FAMILY to have a family picture taken for several months now. I can see why though because the last one we had taken was easily over five years ago. So, now she'll get her wish and maybe she'll quit bugging me about it every chance she gets.

One more week until party time

I can't believe there is only one more week to finish things up for my parents anniversary party. The time is really flying by. We all went and had our pictures taken today. I think they turned out really nice. We had two different poses with all of us (me, hubby, my daughter and son, my brother, his wife and their son) One with all of us standing, the second with my sis-in-law and I sitting. Then each family had a separate portrait taken. The one that we had of my family turned out really nice. I think my parents will enjoy them all.

Tomorrow my sis-in-law and I are heading up to my parents house to sort through some of their old photos. We're making up a picture board to have at the party so people can see how far they've come in the last forty years. I figure we'll have several of them from when they first got married and then a sort of time line up until today. Should be nice when it's all finished.

I really hope the weather holds out and stays nice too. I'm so afraid that there will be a foot of snow on the ground come next weekend especially since it's been fairly mild so far this winter. Wouldn't it be just right to get the worst snowstorm of the season on that day? I'm keeping my fingers crossed and holding my breath that it doesn't turn out that way.

B.I.G.G.E.R. Award picture

Ok, here it is. My son's newspaper picture from winning the B.I.G.G.E.R award at school. This award is given to two kids from each grade who have shown improvement either in their grades or behavior. My son is the tall one in the back row:)

Dubai

How would you like to live somewhere that the temperature is hot all year round and there is virtually no income tax? Does this sound like somewhere out of a fairy tale? Nope, it is real and is called Dubai. Dubai is the second largest emirate of the United Arab Emirates. A majority of their revenues are coming increasingly from tourism. Check out some of the dubai property! Dubai also boasts the largest man-made island in history. It is called Palm Island and consists of two palm tree shaped islands divided into 17 fronds surrounded by a crescent of man made reef. To learn more about Dubai, click here! You'll be glad you did.

Family pictures

I don't remember if I've written about this or not, but for my parent's anniversary gift my brother's family and mine are going to have a family portrait taken. We're all set to get it done tomorrow afternoon and the picture will be ready by their anniversary. I was told last night by my "loving?" husband that he thought that was the cheapest gift he'd ever heard of and I really needed to do something better for such a special day. Needless to say, I was very hurt and upset with him, but now I am wondering. Is this gift too cheap? I know, myself, that I'd love to have a special portrait from my kids as a gift, but then again that is just me. I think that my parents will like it, but am I just putting MY feelings into it? What do you think?

The Young and the Restless

I wrote earlier about my obssession with the soap opera, Days of our Lives. Well, I have to admit that I'm really just a total soap opera fanatic. I watch any of them whenever I get the chance. The only soap that I really don't get much of a chance to watch though is The Young and the Restless. The time of day that it is on just doesn't work for me too often. Whenever I miss an episode though I know that I can go to The Young and the Restless page of Soaps.com to catch up on the show. There I can read daily updates and even spoilers to see what is going to happen on the show next. If you have missed an episode or just want to read up on the character history, why not visit Soaps.com to get caught up.

More good kid news

Remember my saying that my daughter was going to be in the newspaper for some of her artwork? Well, she's not been featured yet, but we're expecting the article to be in soon. anyway, she told me last night that she is now going to be featured as an outstanding student of the month in the newspaper also! She was so excited. It was all she talked about all evening. My son will also have his picture in the newspaper soon too for winning an award at school called the BIGGER award. I don't know exactly what it stands for, but it pertains to a child improving his grades. Too cool.

Hoodia

Anyone who has ever dieted knows what I am talking about when I say I hate that hungry feeling. I have read some good things about pure hoodia, a cactus-like product that grows in Africa's Kalahari Desert. Scientists have discovered a molecule in it that really does take your hunger away! I am going to try it. If you would also like to reap the benefits of hoodia, click here to give it a try.

One day down

I finished my first day back on track and think I did really well. I had fruit and yogurt for my breakfast, a tuna steak and salad for my lunch, a peppermint candy between and then tuna and rice for my dinner. I could have gotten in more veggies, I know, but at least I didn't eat junk all day long like I had been doing. Today I'm starting out pretty dang good too, having a bowl of cheerios for my breakfast. Lunch will be a microwave meal, more then likely, and a salad. Dinner tonight hasn't been planned yet, but I'll think more about that later in the day. I've also gotten in half of my water already today. working on a diet root beer at the moment though. I needed something fizzy:)

Wish me luck....Again:)

I'm restarting YET again on losing weight. I have made a trip to the grocery store to stock up on fresh fruit and veggies and I have my plan all laid out. Today I've done good and hopefully taking it one day at a time will get me back on track. I know I need to do something. I'm starting to feel the effects of all this extra weight again. My ankles are constantly sore when I'm standing. I can just feel all the extra pounds pushing down on them. My back has been bugging me and I'm having problems sleeping again. Not fun. I do have a bit of an incentive to get me there too. Towards the end of March, my hubby and I are planning on going to MIAMI on vacation. Well, no way am I going to get on a plane and not fit into the seats or go onto a beach looking like a whale. Nope, not going to happen. I want to be at least 15 lbs. light by that time. I know in reality that I can lose that much if I put my mind to it. Maybe even more if I really push myself. Don't worry I won't do anything stupid like not eat. I will eat healthy and move my body more to get to my goal. So, wish me luck! I'm going to do it this time!

Days of our Lives

Ok, anybody who knows me KNOWS that I am a HUGE fan of the soap opera, Days of Our Lives. I watch it every single day and if I know that I'm not going to be able to watch it then I record it and watch it either that night or the following day when I get the chance. Now, I will admit that there are times that a certain storyline really bugs me because it is taking too long to play out so I will go online and search for Days of our Lives spoilers. They give me just that little bit of "extra" info that I'm looking for.

The other day I was chomping at the bit to see how a certain Sami storyline was going to play out and was searching online when I came across Soaps.com and decided to check it out. I have to say that I LOVE this website. Their DOOL page is awesome and very complete. They have everything on there...daily updates, spoilers, message boards...you name it and they've got it. And registration is FREE! Now who wouldn't like that? So, if you're a fan of Days why not stop by and check them out. And don't forget to check out those Days of our Lives spoilers so you'll know what exciting things are to come!

It's report card time

My kids brought their report cards home yesterday for the second quarter of school. Hard to believe they are halfway finished already, but that's a whole different topic. Anyway, both did extremely well. My son got all A's. He was happy about that because this was a transitional year for him, different teachers, different and harder classes, etc. My daughter got A's and two B's. She was also happy about that. She has two really hard classes and has been giving it her all for the past few months trying to raise her grade in each. By the looks of her report card she succeeded in doing so. I'm so proud of both of my kids. They are both such good students:)

Wirefly

Well, 2006 is over and last week Wirefly, a leader in the world of comparison shopping for wireless phones, phone plans and phone accessories, announced their list of the top ten best selling cell phones of 2006? Can you guess which one made it to the top of the list? I'll give you a hint. It's super slim and the name sounds like something that you'd find in the medine cabinet. No, it's not what you're thinking, silly! It's the RAZR!!!! Cingulars Motorola Razr came in first, followed by the T-Mobiles Razr and Verizon's Razr. If you'd like to see what else made the list, you can do so here.

One year ago, Wirefly also predicted several trends that they thought would influence people's purchase of cell phones. How did those trends compare to Wirefly's predictions?

1. Music and mobile TV phones
Yep, you guessed it. Nine out of the top ten phones were camera phones and a lot of the new models shipped by Wirefly in 2006 emphasized music capabilities.

2. Bigger selection of smartphones with more robust operating systems
2006 did see the introduction of exciting smartphones like the Treo 700 series, the Motorola Q, the Blackberry Pearl and Blackberry 8700 series, and Pocket PC's like the Verizon XV6700. This just proves that users still demand functionality.

3. Cell phones designed for children
There were very strong growth sales for phones made just for kids. Wirefly also
made a deal with Disney Mobile, which is now a featured carrier on their site.

4. Expanded GPS services
Increased marketing of GPS services by the cell phone carriers themselves. Wirefly also expects to see this trend continue.

What really drew me to Wirefly though was how easy it was to compare cell phone prices and services. I don't usually visit comparison websites, but Wirefly made it so easy that I will from now on.

Fun Weekend

We celebrated my hubby's birthday this past weekend with a trip to Casino Aztar. He was all excited about going. We also got to see Joan Jett in concert while we were there on Friday night. She was playing at Hoosier's Lounge, which we have to walk through to get to the casino, so we stopped and enjoyed that for awhile too. I love Joan Jett! She is such a hard rocker and really had the crowd moving with her songs. Even hubby was dancing (inconspicuously, of course) along with everyone. After listening to several of her songs, including "I love Rock and Roll" and "Bad Reputation" we went on to the casino. We usually just play the slot machines as neither one of us are good at any of the other games, but hubby decided to try his hand at Blackjack this time. He didn't do bad and he stopped when he started to lose. He ended up winning $50 from five games. Saturday afternoon was spent playing at the arcade, bowling and swimming in the hotel pool. It was really a nice, relaxing way to spend a birthday. We did come home to find 3" of snow on the ground, but even that didn't put a damper on the weekend.

Free Online Games

I don't get the chance very often, but when I do I LOVE to Play Games online. My favorite type of games to play online are word games, but I like the casino games too. I've been going to a new website called Game-2-Play.com and it is great. There are over 150 games to play, all of them are flash so no downloads to your computer needed and best of all they are free! You don't have to register to play either although if you do you will get unlimited game play 24/7! Visit them now and relax with some fun games.

Driver's License

My daughter will be getting her driver's license in just a few months. It's all she ever talks about anymore. Every time we go somewhere, she wants to drive. Most times I let her, but there are days when I just want to get there and I don't. Those are the days that she thinks I'm evil. Yesterday was one of them. She wanted to drive into school. I said "not today" and she went ballistic. I know she needs the practice, but come on. Don't bite the hand that holds those car keys, girl, or you won't be driving at all.

In my state, kids have to have at least 50 hours of driving time BEFORE they are allowed to get their license. My daughter only has 15 hours in, but one of her friends has almost 25 and that's just not fair. Never mind the fact that her friend has had her permit for two months LONGER then my daughter. I get hit by these questions anyway. Why can't she drive more? Don't we want her to get better at driving? Why are we so mean? Hello? Is she paying for the gas? We let her drive as much as possible, but we're not going to be driving around for no reason, it's just too expensive. I'm sure she'll figure that out once she does have to pay for the gas herself, but now it just means we are evil parents who aren't cool.

It's snowing!

For the first time this winter, it is actually snowing today. And it is sticking to the ground. That part I could do without. I like to look at it, but don't want to drive in it or walk in it or anything like that. And it is downright cold out there today. For the most part, this winter has been really mild with temps no lower then 35 degrees, but today the high is only 24. Brr! It can stop now. I'm ready for spring!

Teen Website

If you have a teen, I imagine they like to keep in touch with their friends either by phone, email or instant messaging. There are also several websites out there that pertain to teens where they can set up message boards and keep in touch with friends that way. My daughter recently ran across a website called Sconex. It's a bit different from the other websites she has seen as they offer "quizzes" or "teen quizzes" on their site. These quizzes are made up by YOU and can be sent to your friends or published on your site for everyone to take. My daughter told me that this was one of the main reasons she signed up for this website because it sounded like a lot of fun.

Shopping Spree

I finally took some time to shop for some new clothes for myself. I am one that almost always puts my family before myself when it comes to certain things, clothes being one of them. It must be something about becoming a mom that makes that gene appear because I know I never did that before I was married. It was all about me then:) Anyway, I rarely buy clothes for myself because 1)I hate to shop 2)I hate to shop and 3)I hate to shop, but when you can see THROUGH a SWEATSHIRT(!) that means it is too old to wear in public anymore and it is time to shop whether you like it or not. I did good. I found four new shirts that will take me through the winter. I know, I should have probably bought an entire new wardrobe, but hey, this is progress for me. My daughter was even proud of me for picking a few hipper styles so maybe she won't be too embarrassed to be seen in public with me anymore. Yeah, right. My next shopping trip will have to include blue jeans. I am down to just a couple of pair that fit. That trip won't happen for awhile, but when it does I'm sure (insert sarcasm) it will be a LOT of fun!

Already?!?!?!

Wow, can you believe that an entire week of the new year has come and gone already? Does this mean that this year is going to zip by too? I sure hope not although I do wish for warm, springtime weather to get here as fast as it can.

Things have been busy here so I figure that is why the time is flying. January is usually pretty busy with the business, trying to get all of our tax paperwork together and stuff. I hate that part, but it is nice to clear out the files and have them empty for awhile. Of course, I have to find a spot for the old files and that is becoming a bigger challenge each year. When we first started this business, the years files could easily fit in a shoebox in our closet. That is no longer true. This year I'm moving them out to the garage in big 20 gallon plastic bins!

Also, me and my sister in-law have been busy planning my parents 40th wedding anniversary party. It has been fun, but gee is it time consuming! We went shopping today though and took care of pretty much everything on our lists except for the food. That will be done closer to the actual party date of February 4th.

In between tax stuff and party planning, I'm also trying to get back into the diet and exercise mode. So far though I'm not having much luck with it. I have good intentions, just not the motivation or energy. I keep thinking that one day there will be a fairy show up on my doorstep and he/she will just zap this fat away. Oooh, wouldn't that be fabulous? Oh well, I can dream, can't I?

And on that note, I'm going to go. Hubby should be home soon and I haven't even begun to think about what to fix for dinner tonight. YIKES!

Beach Cruisers

I have always loved riding bikes. When I was a little kid, you could bet money that any time the weather was nice that I would be outside on my bike. Of course, now that I am an adult I don't even own a bike, but I would love to get one so that I could go on bike rides with my kids.

If I were to get a new bike, I would probably get one of the beach bicycles from XYZ bikes. I have checked out their online catalog and looked over all of the different styles that they offer. I think I would probably get the firmstrong urban lady beach cruiser if I had my choice. It is a single speed, which people might think is old fashioned, but that is what I grew up riding so why not stick with what I know? The one they show online is pink or you can choose green, neither of which is really a favorite color of mine. If I were to get one, I would rather have it in a bright red or yellow! That would be more my style.

They also offer classic beach cruisers, men's cruisers, women's cruisers, kid's cruisers, multi speed cruisers and even chopper cruisers! How cool is that? If you are in the market for a new bike, go visit their website. You'll be happy that you did.

Dish Network

Living out here in the country like I do, we don't have the option of cable tv. If you want to watch more then NBC, CBS or FOX, which are the only local options we have here, then you need to get a satellite dish. That is what I did. Now I went through a local dealer here in my hometown, but you might want to check out this Dish Network Deal. They offer 100% Free installation of your DISH TV dish and other equipment, a free DVR (digital video recorder, and a free HD Receiver (if you choose) and HDTV channels. DISH TV also offers $100.00 back on programming and $200.00 back on HD Programming. They offer a great range of programming so you are sure to find something that will fit your needs. Go check them out today.

Arizona

Do you ever dream of winning the lottery and moving someplace with warm weather? Or maybe even moving there now just to get away from the cold winters in your area? Here in illinois, the winters can be pretty darn cold so I've dreamed of moving a lot! If I ever do move, I'll be checking out the Scottsdale Condos listed on scottsdalefineproperties.com website. They have a long list of homes for sale so why not go browse through them. You might find that dream home you've been thinking about.

Time

2006 really flew by and now it is actually 3 days into 2007. Why does time seem to go so fast anymore? I know I wasn't able to accomplish all that I wanted last year because I just didn't seem to have the time. I am hoping that this year goes a bit slower, but I know it won't. The older I get, the faster the years go. When I was younger, I couldn't wait for the school year to be over so summer vacation would be here or until I was 16 and got my driver's license or better yet, 18 and able to graduate, but now all I want is to slow down, relax and enjoy the time that I have. My main resolution this year isn't the standard lose weight and get healthy one. That is still on my agenda, but my main resolution is to slow down and actually enjoy life. Stop and smell the roses or iris or even dandelions, look at all the beautiful scenery when I'm riding in the car instead of focusing on how soon we'll be at our destination. If I don't accomplish all the chores and errands on my to do list, oh well. Those things will still be there tomorrow, but this day will only be here once. When it is over, that is it. I don't get the chance to live it again so I'm going to enjoy it while it is here.
